Enshin is an effective style for everyone. It's a practical system of empty-handed self defense based on a strategy of circular movement allowing you to use your opponent's power and momentum against them. This strategy, called sabaki, enables you to convert defense into offense.
Enshin stresses the development of flexibility, power, and speed, with emphasis on stretching, conditioning, and technique. Training in Enshin karate builds spiritual awareness, mental alertness, a sense of confidence, and provides resources for meeting the challenges encountered in life.
Enshin Karate was developed by Kancho Ninomiya (pictured right): winner of the 1978 All-Japan Tournament, and Director of the Sabaki Challenge.
"Karate is not just for strong people. It draws anyone who senses a weakness in themselves and wants to become stronger." - Kancho Ninomiya
Enshin karate classes comprise of a warm-up and basics, followed by partner pad drills (punching, kicking, grabbing, and sabaki training), falling drills, and some controlled sparring as you progress to higher levels.
